The City of Crystal Lake’s year-long centennial brings with it another free family event this fall. The Closing Centennial Festival will be on Sunday, September 14, 2014. The celebration will be held in downtown Crystal Lake from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The festival, along Williams Street near the Raue Center for the Arts, will offer fun activities for the whole family.   Music, dance, entertainers, and cupcakes will be part of the birthday celebration. The closing Centennial Festival is free of charge and family friendly.

The main stage outside of the Raue Center will have fun and exciting entertainment all afternoon. The day kicks off with the popular Hip-Hop Explosion: Learn a short and exciting mini-routine from some of Chicago’s hottest dance instructors! Hip Hop Explosion will also include a performance by Summers Academy of Dance. Mind Reader and Magician Joe Diamond will take the stage after Hip Hop, and Mayor Shepley will be on hand to give some final remarks about our centennial year, and to dedicate the centennial time capsule. Finally, Felix and Fingers, featuring American Idol Finalist and Crystal Lake native David Radford, will take the stage with their raucous dueling pianos!

Along Williams Street will be more fun for the whole family. There will be food vendors offering a variety of popular Downtown Crystal Lake eats. Additionally attendees can enjoy face painting, a stilt walking juggler, balloon artists, and Joe Diamond the magician/mind reader will rove the crowd ready to amuse and amaze. Come test your skills at our baggo tournament, or casually play against your friends!

The Raue Center lobby will host several great activities! All afternoon, Lego Master Model Builder and Crystal Lake native David Howard will demonstrating his skills and children can interact and build LEGOS. Also inside the Raue Center will be a photo booth and crafts stations presented by Creative Arts, Inc. Additionally, the final Crystal Lake Centennial Speaker Series will be held at 1:00 PM inside the Raue Center theater, along with a public reading of the new Centennial book at 2:00 PM.
